Nikon D3 does not have the on demand grid. The last thing you want is getting dirt, dust or anything of that nature on your focusing screen, because you'll have to stare at it every time you take a photo. There's a little catch near the aperture ring that should drop the focusing screen out. Sorry to dig this thread up, How do you change out focus screens? Does the autofocus still work after a swap? Bummer.Ĭurious smash edited this topic ages ago. Apparently, KatsEye will not be able to make a 3rds grid for the D3 because of the electronic display switching option of DX / 4:5 / FF. The Nikon E screen for the D3, IMHO, is pretty redundant because its still easy to level horizons with the D3 - using the marked line of the focus boundary indicator. The grid from KatsEye that I use on my D2Hs is graduated in 3rds unlike the Nikon grid screens that are graduated in a pretty strange way! The 3rd'sgrid is a nice and easy tool to compose in the "rule" of 3rds. I think the camera has been out long enough, were not enough made to bring demand to the tipping point?ģrd party grid-screens like KatsEye are way better than those that Nikon makes for their own cameras. I wonder why there's not a larger variety of focusing screens made for D3? It would be great to try out a matte with clear center spot, or a microprism collar type screen. You really don't know they are there till you need them and look for them. I use the "E" screen in my D3 as well and the grid lines are highly visible but not obtrusive and annoying. I think that is what I paid for one 30 years ago! Thanks Matt! I went ahead and ordered the screen from BH. Here is a link to a focusing screen with a grid:
#Nikon f90x e focusing screen how to#
I used to have one for my film cameras such as the F3.ĭoes anyone know how to turn on a grid feature if there is one? Or where to buy a grid focus screen? I looked at optional focus screens on BH but did not find one with a grid. In previous Nikon DSLR's (D200 and D300) I was able to turn on a grid feature but cannot find it with the D3 nor have I found any information in the manual.
